School Programs

Cornerstone of Hope is pleased to partner with area schools to offer free in-school support to students, staff, and their families.

These groups provide students with healthy ways to cope with their feelings of grief and loss in the familiarity of their own school.

Grief Support

Children spend a significant portion of their day in the school environment. For this reason, school staff members are often placed in primary support roles with students grieving the loss of a loved one. Cornerstone of Hope seeks to come alongside schools, providing grief support and education services for staff, students, and families.

Cornerstone of Hope Provides:

  • Initial Phone Consultation to determine appropriate needs and resources
  • Free Grief Education Materials for staff, students, and families
  • Grief Support Groups for students
  • Initial Debriefing with Staff after a loss
  • Information on current and upcoming Grief Services and Events for students and families taking place at Cornerstone of Hope

In-School Grief Support Grades K-12

Arts based therapy support group designed to help children and adolescents who have experienced the death of a loved one. Groups last eight weeks for approximately 60 minutes. Groups are designed for 4-8 children or teens and are offered for Kindergarten through 12th Grade. Groups will be determined by age and developmental appropriateness. Groups are based on staff availability. 

Social emotional learning competencies addressed:

  • Increase self-awareness of one’s own grief reactions
  • Explore how grief affects the whole person
  • Educate about common emotional, mental, physical, spiritual and behavioral grief reactions
  • Provide a healthy and age appropriate outlet for strong emotions
  • Provide positive coping skills for participants to manage their emotions and behaviors to achieve their goals
  • Provide memorial art therapy interventions
  • Provide a supportive environment amongst student peers, increasing student’s sense of support within the school community
